Elvio Cogno is one of the Langhe's most respected and forward-thinking estates, based in Novello in the heart of the Barolo zone. Founded by the legendary Elvio Cogno and now led by his son-in-law Walter Fissore and daughter Nadia, the estate is celebrated for its commitment to indigenous Piedmontese grape varieties and its pioneering role in the revival of Nascetta — an ancient white grape that had nearly disappeared from the region entirely.

Nascetta is a rare, indigenous white variety native to the commune of Novello, where it has been cultivated for centuries. Nearly extinct by the late 20th century, Elvio Cogno was instrumental in its revival, and today the grape has its own dedicated DOC — Langhe Nascetta del Comune di Novello — a testament to the variety's unique character and the estate's advocacy. The Anas-Cëtta — the name is a playful phonetic rendering of "Nascetta" in Piedmontese dialect — is the benchmark expression of this extraordinary grape, farmed organically and vinified with minimal intervention to let the terroir speak.

This Chardonnay grapes come from a single vineyard in Carneros that is influenced by the cooling effect of the Pacific Ocean allowing for a long growing season. Vinous 93 Points | The 2021 Chardonnay Cordillera de los Andes comes from the Talinay vineyard in Limarí. 50% was aged in French barrels, 23% of them new. Yellow with a greenish sheen. The nose offers green apple notes with hints of pear, acacia, hazelnuts and a whiff of praline over a bed of oak. In the mouth it has a saline feel with a slightly creamy flow and pert freshness. Brianne Day chose three blocks and three clones from the gorgeous Eola Springs Vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills to get to know the site intimately. Hyde Wente and Mount Eden (California heritage clones) were picked earlier for structure and acid; Dijon 96 was picked later for stone fruit and riper character.

The result is lively, lithe, and built on a solid mineral structure with a supple, glossy mid-palate. Lemon curd, peaches, river stones, lime zest, sweet orange, honeysuckle, and a hint of pastry all come to mind.

The wine, which is only partially fermented, is then filtered. The wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation and is bottled using sterile filtration.

I’m thrilled to kick off 2025 by introducing my latest project: 67 Wine Somm Series Petit Moscato 2024.Once again, I’ve drawn inspiration from the vibrant and dynamic wine culture of NYC! The label design aligns seamlessly with the rest of our 67 Wine Petit Somm Series, maintaining a consistent and stylish aesthetic. Moscato is one of the most popular wine categories in New York, and my goal was to craft a wine that pairs an elegant label with authentic, high-quality juice.

Tasting Notes:

The wine presents a pale lemon-yellow hue with bright highlights. On the nose, it is intensely aromatic, as Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains is renowned for its fragrant character. The palate is lively, offering sweet, fresh fruit flavors of orange, honeydew melon, and peach. A subtle sweetness transitions beautifully into a finish accented with delicate notes of white blossom flowers.

In my view, this Moscato pairs perfectly with spicy Szechuan cuisine, Japanese and Indian dishes, tapas-style appetizers, blue cheeses, and chicken liver pâté.

David Ramey is one of California's most celebrated winemakers — a Burgundy-trained perfectionist who has spent decades proving that the Russian River Valley can produce Chardonnay of genuine world-class stature. The 2023 Russian River Valley Chardonnay is sourced from seven exceptional cool-climate vineyard sites — Lafranchi, Westside Farms, Sonoma Foothills, Martinelli Laughlin, Kilcullen, Dutton Sebastopol, and Frank Johnson — all planted on low-vigor Goldridge loam soils between 1978 and 2017. Michael Alberty of the Wine Enthusiast writes 93 Points | Every year I marvel at how such a marvelous Riesling can be $20. The Poet's Leap opens with an aromatic ode to lychee fruit, honeysuckle, almond butter and a wisp of petrol. Lemony acidity curls itself around flavors like green honeydew melon, rose water and the sweetness of a slice of peach pie. The 2023 is as good as any in recent memory. Mercy.

Vinous 90 Points | The 2023 Riesling Poet's Leap is delicate and understated, with notes of shaved lemon zest, green melon, mint and hints of petrol. It mixes ripe orchard fruits and salty mineral tones with a core of brilliant acidity. This finishes with medium length and remarkable lift, leaving a suggestion of citrus sorbet on the finish.

Winemaker Description 

This is Lauer’s Platonic ideal of what a Saar Riesling should be. If we were in Burgundy this would be the equivalent of a Bourgogne Blanc.

As an appellation-level wine, it is sourced from multiple vineyards in three different villages of the Saar. This is always a thrilling off-dry and a silly value.

Domaine de Durban | Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise AOC | Rhône Valley, France | 2021 | 375ml

Domaine de Durban is widely regarded as the benchmark estate for Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise, perched on the dramatic foothills of Mont Ventoux in the southern Rhône Valley. The Leydier family has farmed these sun-drenched hillside vineyards for generations, and they are among the last producers to craft this celebrated vin doux naturel in the traditional style — keeping added spirits as low as possible to preserve the extraordinary freshness and delicacy of the Muscat grape.

Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise is made from Muscat à Petits Grains, one of the oldest and most aromatic grape varieties in the world. Fermentation is arrested by the addition of neutral grape spirit, preserving natural sugars and locking in the grape's vivid aromatic character. The result is a wine of remarkable purity — more refined and elegant than most Muscats from southern France.

The 2021 is luminous gold in the glass. The nose is a pure delight — orange blossom, jasmine, ripe apricot, peach, tropical fruit, and honey, with a delicate mineral thread running through. On the palate, lusciously sweet yet beautifully balanced, with bright natural acidity keeping everything fresh and lifted. The finish is long, fragrant, and utterly captivating.

Dr. Konstantin Frank is the founding father of the American vinifera movement — the visionary who, in 1957, planted the first European vinifera vines in the Eastern United States on the southwestern hills of Keuka Lake and ignited a revolution that forever changed New York wine. Four generations later, the Frank family remains the benchmark for Finger Lakes winemaking — and this Rkatsiteli is their most ancient and extraordinary expression. Rkatsiteli is a Georgian grape variety dating back to 3000 B.C., making it one of the oldest known cultivated grapes in the world. The 2024 is crafted as an amber wine with one month of skin contact — a nod to the ancient Georgian qvevri tradition — resulting in a wine of striking complexity, texture, and depth.

Ramey Woolsey Road Vineyard Chardonnay — Russian River Valley, California 2023

Ramey Wine Cellars is one of California's most celebrated addresses for Chardonnay — founded in 1996 by David and Carla Ramey, and now co-led by the second generation, Claire and Alan. David Ramey, hailed as "Professor Chardonnay" by Wine Spectator, pioneered whole-cluster pressing, sur lies aging, malolactic fermentation, and native yeast fermentations in California. Woolsey Road is Ramey's most personal vineyard: planted by the Martinelli family at Ramey's invitation, using Old Wente cuttings sourced directly from Hyde Vineyard, and farmed by the third and fourth generations of the Martinelli family. Winemaker Jessica Tomei set out to create something she couldn't find anywhere else: a wine that fits an active lifestyle without sacrificing the pleasure of a well-made pour. The result is Cupcake Lighthearted — a Sauvignon Blanc grown in sunny California vineyards, harvested early to keep sugar and alcohol naturally low, and crafted with enough care to still taste like a real wine.

Domaine Gilbert Picq | Chablis 1er Cru Vosgros | Chablis, Burgundy, France | 2024

Domaine Gilbert Picq is a 14.3-hectare family estate in Chablis, managed today by brothers Didier and Pascal Picq. The domaine is celebrated for its ultra-pure, uncompromising house style — no wood, no artifice, just the transparent expression of Chablis terroir in its most honest form. The wines are known to age exceptionally well, developing remarkable complexity over time while always retaining the mineral precision and energy that defines great Chablis.

Vosgros is a left-bank Premier Cru vineyard known for its steep, sun-drenched slopes and Kimmeridgian limestone soils — the ancient seabed of fossilized oyster shells that gives Chablis its signature saline minerality. Picq's plots in Vosgros include some of the family's oldest vines, planted in the 1960s and 1980s, which provide deep concentration and complexity.

The 2024 growing season was seriously complicated — constant treatments to fight mildew, and hail that cost approximately 45% of the potential crop. Yields ranged from 25 to 45 hl/ha with an average of 35 hl/ha. Yet the result, in Didier Picq's own words: "2024 is completely classic, even old school but without the sometimes drying acidities of those vintages. I love this vintage as the wines have excellent terroir transparency and they have so much energy that they're already fun to drink."

The 2024 Vosgros shows fine Chablis typicity — apple, citrus confit, and a whiff of quinine on the nose. On the palate, very good mid-palate density with solidly concentrated, medium-weight flavors, a beguiling texture, and evident minerality on the moderately firm, balanced, and youthfully austere finish. A wine of genuine energy and terroir transparency.

The ultimate match for fresh oysters, trout crudo, grilled sea bass with lemon, goat cheese, and herb-roasted chicken.

The Wine Advocate 92 Points | I was able to taste the just-bottled 2023 Manoella Branco. This was a very balanced vintage, the growing season was almost perfect, and yields were good. The wine was a little closed for such an expressive year of wines with purity and freshness. It has notes of white flowers and fruit and a balsamic touch with the balance and harmony from the old vines.
